PKE problems
It is very sporadic, could it be the sensors are going bad in the car?
I will get it to work, walk back and forth, it will lock and unlock. Then I will come back to the car to go some where later, and it won't unlock, or lock when I get out and leave. It will operate when I push the fob button.
Any ideas?
A more difficult cause to troubleshoot is the PKE receiver (under the dash) and you'll need a manual to describe the complexity.
Yet another (but crazier possibility) is your cell phone.
If my cell phone is in the car, the fob range is almost zero. If the phone is in the car and charging, the PKE is usually nonfunctional.
Good luck.
This is really frustrating, and the PKE is one of my favorite features when it works correctly. It has progressively become worse over the last few years. I think the tumbler in my ignition is wearing out or something, when I turn the car off, the radio stays on until I trun the ignition back on like I am starting the car, then it goes off. Could this have something to do with it? The car doesn't know if the key is in or out of the ignition?
Also, the coupe has one PKE antenna in the driver's door and another inside the rear bumper. Perhaps the one in the door is kaput or intermittent. I don't recollect the antenna placement in a 'vert'.
The added symptoms in the second post could also be tied to an intermittent door ajar sensor.
There were several threads regarding the interaction of the key sensor (in the column lock) with the door ajar gong and with the PKE. Perhaps the service manual has a description of this interplay. Or, try the search tab at the top of this window. I never understood it.
This isn't much but hope it helps. Good luck.
I am also having an issue with the radio not shutting off when I turn the car off AND open the door. Could this be related?

Both problems are really agravating, and I don't know where to start looking, and don't know if the ignition problem is causing the other problem or compounding it.
Could be the ignition, or a sensor (but then why doen't it still operate correctly from the other sensor?), something wrong with the driver door lock with one of the other problems, control module, or a combination off all of these.
But now I have another problem! I unscrewed the screws and pulled the switch out some to view, but the wonderful design uses a gasket in back, which is now pushed back in the door, to hold the screws in!!
So I had to leave the screws out and will have to take this panel off soon too, to hopefully reattach. Why don't they thread the holes!!!!!!!!!!
