Default 89 Engine Damper Question

I believe in the past I saw a thread encouraging guys to remove the large frisbee looking damper from the front of the motor to slightly increase horsepower?

Is that the consensus of CF members?

Any fears of the serpentine belt flying off?

Thanks

Remove it! No trouble here. I have read of many many people that have removed it. Only one that I remember had trouble with noise when the A/C was turned on.

Are you talking about the disc on the water pump pulley?

It's actually a damper for the air compressor. You can take it off without any problems with the belt flying off. Although I don't know how much Hp you will save.

I have been running my 89 for about six years without the metal disc and have not had any problems. I could not detect a difference with or without this disc on my engine.
