I swtched to Amsoil two oil changes ago...there is a local oil change place that does it for $39.95 including a Wix filter and lube job...I use the Amsoil XL...10/30 weight...I have about 5,000 miles and 100 passes down the drag strip since the change and no problemo's...
I use Amsoil in everything I own. I started using it some years ago in my customer's Harleys. The Severe Gear oil is a cure for a bunch of Harley trans problems. I understand that off shore boat racers use it in their outdrives with none of the problems they had with other oils.
I would be using Amsoil, but teh local dealer is an idiot, so I use Red-line instead....
You can become a preferred customer. It allows you to purchase and receive price breaks and order through their web site. There is an anual membership fee. I have several cars and an F250 turbo diesel (fifteen quarts) so it really works well for me.
I use it in everything I own including my 02 Z06 (track car), 06 CTS-V daily driver, wife's 03 Chevy Trailblazer and my new GMC 5500 chassis Duramax Diesel RV (tow vehicle).
FYI, for those looking to buy AMSOIL at my dealer cost and have it shipped to their house, please consider the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program.
don't waste your money on overpriced fancy-named oils that will net most of us on here next to nothing.
unless you're an oval-track racer type, all you need is cheap dino oil, any old brand will do. at $12-14 bucks for 5 gals, its sensible. change it every 3-5,000 miles and you'll be a happy camper. if you really believe otherwise, you've been duped by the bs'ers.
I use it. Dino oil turns black in no time. I've got 6K miles on Amsoil and its still looks fresh. I don't have time to change it every 3K and I won't take it to a Lube shop. I expect it to last a year under normal use, so if you figure time saved and less changes I don't see it as a waste of money. My daughters truck who is off at college doesn't think about maintenance, when she comes homes for special events I always find the Amsoil is still clear enough to see through. If I did a regular oil change with dino I would be changing it every other trip home.
Don't forget to get the EAO oil filter, it is amongst the best out there. I use the 5W-40 European formula in my wife's hard driven C280. Zero oil consumption over an 11,000 oil change intreval. I am a proponent of the slightly thicker viscosity school of thought.

I used to be in the same school of thought as you until recently. I still believe a person will have zero troubles with dino oil but I've converted over to synthetics. I've been using Amsoil synthetic oils in my 2-cycle snowmobiles for years for the reduced smoke and smell but have always used dino oil in the cars with zero problems. Recently I decided to try Amsoil in my 98 Suburban before going on a cross country trip with the wife and kids. This truck has 98K miles and has always used dino oil with zero problems and has always gotten 16 MPG on long trips. On this last trip of close to 3000 miles I got 18.5 MPG and the oil looks fairly clean yet. No changes to anything else but the oil so I have no other explaination for the increase in MPG. I switched my wifes car and the Vette over to Amsoil now and no problems in either one. With the extended oil change intervals and the MPG increase it offsets the cost difference and will protect even better than dino oil.

Yeah, I just like to keep things local...especially oil changes. I've got 4 vehicles, and it seems like I'm constantly changing oil or greasing something...
