I'm at work and wife called to tell me our 86 was idling rough and the "service engine soon" light came on for a short time then went out. Is this something I will need to get a shop to look at? This is my first vette and have had it for about 1-2 months (50,000 miles on it now). Looks like, from the paper work I got for it, from 2000 till now, only had about 2,000 miles put on it. Help!
If the service light came on and then went off- it will be back again. My 86 did this same thing and I found the O2 sensor going out. IF this is your problem, save yourself a headache and replace with AC\Delco. I leaarned the hard way.

The good news is, that your not subject to an OBD test for inspection because that only involves cars from 1996 and up. The not so good news is, there is a problem somewhere, or else the light would not have come on at all. It could be minor, or it could be a warning of some more serious issue. Unless you have access to the equipment to test it, it's best to have a mechanic look at it. Vettes are special cars, so I would get right on it. It pays to be safe. Keep in touch. John
John I dont know if your aware that the codes can be easily pulled by jumping two pins in the ALDL connector and reading the blinking light code. This is the easiest way to start trouble shooting your Vettes problem. A set of instructions and codes can be found in the tech tips section. In the glove box I carry a paper clip, instructions & code list for just this purpose. Also a fire extinguisher.......
Just wanted to thank ya'll for helping me. Had to replace Mass Air Flow Sensor. OUCH! NAPA rebuilt $185.00 with core. What's next? Hopefully a nice ride for awhile! Thanks again.

Didn't pull the code myself, went to my local garage. They checked it for free. It's not like I haven't sent at least 2 of his kids to college already.
