Default Antenna Problem

A my g/f has an 1982 Coupe. We just installed a new CD reciever in the car. Everything was working fine for a few weeks and all of a sudden the antenna keeps getting stuck in the up position. When you shut the radio or the car off the antenna motor keeps running however the antenna will not go down. You actually have to push the antenna down with your hand in order to get it to retract and once the antenna is down the antenna motor will shut off. I was wondering if it just needs a cleaning or what.

Please advise

If it's anything like my 86 antenna, I would bet that the nylon rod between motor and finial end of antenna, is broken. I bought the nylon rod with finial end for $25 from GM. To replace it, you have to pull the motor and open up the housing to re and re.

Default new masts at ANTENNAMASTSRUS.COM

Instructions on how to do it are there too. They don't tell you on some antennas you have to drill out the plastic rivets to get the broken piece out. What I had to do on my C5. BIGHANK

....good point, i believe they do...HOWEVER, the antenna on my 81 was a self contained unit and WAS different so, therefore, it required the entire antenna to be changed out which i did with one from k-mart that fit perfectly and easy to install.....
