Default Manually shifting the automatic

Do you ever shift the automatic manually? Come on, tell the truth!
How 'bout at the drags? Is it better to just let it shift itself?
Gonna go take my spare tire out and store it under the house. Be right back....

Default No jack

Damn. Went to take the spare out and found that I ain't got no jack! WTF? Are there a lot of parts hanging down if I take the spare out? On another thread, I saw where guys just get a can of Fix-a-Flat. I'd like to remove the spare. Do I put the cover back in place or do I leave that off too?

I shift the auto once in a while. The car goes freaking nuts! It's cool. That's why I asked! Something that feels that good can't be good for the car!!
It figures...

I never have..don't see the point...I drag race my car 90% of the time and it is a distinct disadvantage to shift manually unles you enjoy losing....when I drive around town I take it easy since I beat the snot out of the car at the track so much...

I do it. I did *hear* that the auto runs off of pressure so it is not good for it but that is just what someone said. Popping it in neutural *I* think at long interval stoplights would help it last longer as the transmission is not fighting against itself while your idling. Am I right on that?

The articles I read on that say t let the trans shift itself at the track. Better and more consistent times result.

I occasionally shift mine manually, just for the fun of it.

My jack and handle are under the hood just ahead of the radiator shroud.

Mine's an 84.

Put the cover back in place.

Fix-a-flat is only good for a leak.

Isn't going to do you much good if the tire gets cut or shredded.

I shift mine manually when I feel a little spirited, but if I were at the track I'd leave it alone.

Default I shift mine all the time

Of course I have a manual transmission - because I like to drive the car instead of aim it. I can't believe the high percentage of vettes that came with AT - i guess I just don't get it!

If you want to shift it - get a manual trans.

Since I have a reverse pattern full manual valve body, I have to shift mine... I love having full control of my own shift points.

Shift kit? Got any information on that? Price? Advantages? Installation? My autos been rebuilt with new T.C. and 9 clutches instead of six in the pack. If thats even true....

I do all the time, since I have the 2.59 rear. It seems that I get better use of the power band if I keep it in the lower gears around town. I hate when it dogs down in a high gear. I will keep the dang thing in 2nd and 3rd around town. up to about 40 or 45 mph I won't let it into OD unless I'm going at least 55-60

The better shift kits give you the option of FULL manual operation through the gears but still retaining auto in drive.
Will hold a selected gear until the engine blows up and downshift at any speed; exactly like driving a stick.
Can be done by dropping the trans pan.

See here for others comments.
