Pan Gasket Choice
I need to replace my oil pan gasket. Which manufacturer makes the best gasket or are they all alike?
Thanks to all

FWIW, I used a
1-Piece, Rubber/ Steel Core Fel-Pro® Oil Pan Gasket (~$35). There are some multi-piece gaskets kits. I went w/ the 1-piece because I was afraid of leaks @ the corners of the pan.

I played it safe and bought a 1-piece oil pan gasket from the dealer for $60. I'd just get one from them, as that is a place you don't want leaks from.
I wouldn't cheap on an oil pan gasket.

Go with the Felpro, it is a bit thicker than the OEM.

"That's the ticket, Laddie". Taken from one of the Star Trek movies.

I bought a gasket and started to take the car apart. I was wondering if it is recommended to apply some gasket sealant to the new gasket or install it dry. Does anybody have any experience both ways.
Thanks

I installed mine dry, and no leaks (knock on wood) three years later.

You'll get differing views on this.
I follow the directions of the gasket manufacturer. The directions that came with my gasket said, in BIG BOLD LETTERS , not to use any sealer. That's what I did on the 388 I just build a few months ago.
I make sure that the block, oil pan, T/C cover, etc., are completely free of any trace of oil.
Years back when I used the older style four piece sets, I always used sealer - Permatex Silicone.

I bought the FelPro gasket and it came with two large O rings and two flat gaskets. Any clue as to what they are for?
Thanks Again

They are for the oil filter adapter.
