I have a 96 c.e. with a lt.1. Im looking to get a cat back system and headers and was wondering whats good out there. Im also looking more towards performance than sound. any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Luckily there are lots of both headers and cat backs out there for our cars.

TPIS and EM (exotic muscle) long tube headers are regarded pretty highly, they are some of the more expensive ones though. Hooker and many others make some reasonably priced ones though. Cor$a, Borla, B&B are good catback systems.

Do a search in this forum, because there are TONS of threads on this subject, and I suggest you also read up on the exhaust resonance issues too before you buy.

Corsa cat-backs are regarded pretty highly around here. Nice performance gain and no interior resonance issues. Only problem is the price tag...$1300 give or take

Zip has the corsa for $899 and it has the best reviews. B&B exhausts supposedly have the best performace gain.

As for headers get the 1 3/4" into a 3" collector and get them ceramic coated. Exotic muscle has em for $771 (group purchase for $671 last month) and I recently saw a company making Tri-Y headers on ebay for about $650. Tri-Y supposedly make more torque than traditional 4-into-1. This is all hearsay so hopefully someone will back me up.

If it was me I would go with Tri-Y 1 3/4" into a 3" collector with a set of Corsas. But that's just me!

Just give merle at exotic muscle a call 480-967-4222. there is almost always a group buy going on even if it isnt spoken of much. The only downside is the wait but they are worth it!

My EM headers took about 4 weeks, and Merle, or perhaps Trevor, made them especially for my '89 L98. That is, w/o the bung on each front tube that from what I understand is required on the LT engines. They are sitting right beside me, in all of their luxourious (sp.) beauty. Got em for $671 shipped, which is $100 off.
Merle said they were only offering 10 sets, but it was not set in stone.
Like someone said above, call him and I would bet he would accomodate you. He and Trevor are 2 of the nicest guys I've ever spoken with when it comes to salesmanship (exact opposite of TPiS staff).

P.S. Now all I have to do is find a used set of LT pipes to fabricate back to the mufflers. (I was warned the extention tubes they sell rub on auto trannies.) Does anyone know if ZR1 exhausts are 2 & 3/4", or 3"?
