My wife took my 94 to the store about 2 months ago. My son jokingly told her to do a burnout....SO...she pulls out in the road, tachs it up, and dumps the clutch...HALFWAY OUT!!!! Smoke was everywhere but the tires were not spinning. That was the final thing I needed to get the clutch/flywheel replaced. The chattering did not bug her (drove me nuts) but the smell of burnt clutch made her sick enough to let me spend the money!!! God love her.
Of course, I showed her the proper burn out method in our Mustang!!!
My buddy's wife rode their van to a smoking stop and then said, "All these stupid people kept honking, waving and pointing at me. I couldn't make it go any faster, I had my foot to the floor and it just kept getting slower and louder!"
Lynyrd Skynyrd = "Oooh Oooh That Smell, Can't You Smell That Smell !"
She also needs a lesson in simple car mechanics. When lights come on, pull over. A tow is cheap... compared...
This happened to my wife (bastet44), however, she is more than smart enough to call me the minute the lights came on! I told her to park it - NOW! But she couldn't... it took about 10 minutes... and that was all it took to kill the oil and the bearings.
Reminds me of when I got in teh wifeys car years ago to got to the store and the first 3 feet I heard and felt a severe grinding
The brake pads were not just metal to metal thewy were metal into metal
Zero pad left and deep gouges in the front rotors
I asked how long this had been going on and the response was "I dont know a little while I guess"
The only thing I could think of was "How has it been stopping"
She drove the car approx 15 miles mostly highway and said she drove normal speeds ( 60 -70 )
Christ almighty! She gave it hell huh?
My wife would have called me immediately. All people who operate motor vehicles ought to know what to do when the car breaks or when warning lights come on. PARK IT immediately if not sooner! This goes for men as well as women.
You will probably end up replacing that engine. 15 miles is a long way down the road. There are great deals out there on crate engines. I would not take a chance on re-using the short block without going through it. It might run good now but what about next month, or next year.
White smoke = water (coolant)
Black smoke = too much gas (not enough air)
Blue smoke = oil burner
Thick creamy black oil, coolant mixed in the oil, (while it was running).
Remove the radiator cap when it is running,... watch the bubbles.
Pull the plugs. The cyl(s) with the bad gasket (or other problems) will be obvious. (Will be wet & clean.) Ever steam clean an engine from the cyl to the tail pipe? (Cat(s) is a gonner as well. It will still breath. It just won't clean the air.)
She failed to say anything about the check engine light?
The only symptom was, "it just quite"?
I think someone is placing the blame on their wife. You seem to cool and collected given the fact that your engine is a warped piece of non-functional scrap metal. Don't waste your time changing gaskets, pull the motor.
Long story short....
Wife took my 85 Vette out...heard a loud noise...turned around and headed home...car was very hard to steer and smoking...( her words ) drove it about 15 miles then it went dead at a stop sign and would not start...turns out the Accessory belt broke....I replaced that and now the car runs really rough...will not idle and smokes white smoke from the exhaust....it ran like a dream before this happened...am I totally screwed or is there something else I need to do.....Please help me out....
Lol, I broke the serpentine belt on mine just last week, but it was from the A/C compressor pulley locking up. Zak.
