Default engine dies

about 2 weeks ago at night in the rain with lites aircon radio on my 88 conv just died in stop and go traffic, very first time it ever happened. I got it off the road and the only warning lite on was the battery, the dash display lites, radio, everything was on when it stopped running. The car started right back up and I proceeded on my way with no problems. A week later on a short trip it died again. this time during the day, hot out but had not reach operating temp. This time when I cranked it up it started right up but bogged down and had a popping sound coming from the intake. after a few more times like this it cranked back up and ran fine. When I got it home I checked all the lines, battery (new 2 months ago) Alternator wire (new alternator 2 months ago) distributor (new cap and wires 2 months ago) everything looked fine and NO CODES. the next time I drove it no problems then today when I slowed to make a right turn die again. The popping sound was back and it took me 4 or 5 trys to get it started as it popped and bogged down, when it finally restarted I drove it the 20 miles home with no problem. Anyone know where I should start or had the same problem? any help appreciated

this is how fuel pumps die...couple of stalling episodes, then the ''big one'' (interval of a few days leads many to forget the ''warning signs'', insist it 'just quit')...in-tank pumps have a life exp of 10 yr or 100k miles, whichever comes first... a ''fuel pressure'' check is ALWAYS ''step 1'' in diagnosing a f.i. run prob, may show low output but you are chasing a ''ghost'' until the engine won't run at all...harbo fright sells a tester for abt $15, under $100 any auto parts store (everybody should own one, shoulda come on the car like race cars)
