I have a '96 LT1 that the service engine light has come on. My friendly Autozone store used their diagonistic device for me and came up with "engine running lean". They said it could be the fuel filter or fuel pump.
Any thoughts on what could be going on? the light has come on a couple of times in the past few weeks, but it has gone off after I fiddle with the gas cap. Don't know if that is related to the running lean code.
The problem could be the filter or the pump, a bad O2 sensor or many other things. You will need a Factory Service Manual to correctly diagnose the code, anything else is guess work.
You are right, but it is the "many other things" statement that makes me nervous. Oh well, I haven't had any expenses on the car since last year when I had to have the HVAC controller replaced. Now THAT was a harsh sticker shock!

Thanks for confirming my fears.
Don't let it scare you before doing the diagnostics, yes it could get expensive but may also be something simple. Throwing parts at a problem is where the real waste of money comes into play, good luck.
