As JAKE said Comp Cams recommends .020" to .040", I have checked with a dial indicator and 1/2 turn = .030", that's where I'm running right now. Having said that, 1/4 turn would be less than .020" and 3/4 turn would be more than .040". HTH :chevy

I think the math is pretty easy on this as long as you have the correct pushrod length; know the preload specified by the manufacturer of the lifter, and the thread length of the rocker stud. For example, if GM specifies a full turn from zero lash on a rocker stud with a 24 inch thread, then one turn should give a preload of .041 and change. If the new set up specifies a .030 preload, that's about 75% of stock, so 3/4 of a turn would be right. Maybe the variations being posted are due to different valvetrain geometries caused by other tolerances such as taller valves, thinner head gaskets, or even the change in cam and rockers, used with incorrect pushrod length. Just a thought.
