Apply the brakes every thing is ok, let up a little and reapply and its like the engine has been turned off. If I completely let off on the brakes then reapply every thing is ok again. Am I having issues with the assist boost? Thanks Jack
Do you hear any hissing sounds? That is usually a good sign that the booster is bad. But I would guess the booster is about to fail completely. Mine did the same thing about a month ago.

Yep, the hissing sound is there. Is it a difficult replacement?
Outside under hood is easy. My vette is 89. There are 4 bolts or nuts (dont remember which) way up under the dash. Take the driver seat out and have a good light and some long extensions. I replaced mine with another plastic unit. I wish I would have installed one made out of metal. Very rewarding when done, cruising with good brakes.!!

I did not see the metal one in the parts catalog. I noticed some were remanufactured and sold by Cardone. Whats your thoughts on remanufacture? BTW, if you have a web site for the metal version I would like to check it out. Thanks, Jack
my booster just crapped out on my 86, I looked at the metal ones and almost went that way but I didn't want to wait for shipping, I found a cardone reman local for $98, the metal one is new and only about $25. more. the only negative is it's brass and sticks out like a sore thumb under the hood unless you paint it black. So just a choice I'm putting mine back in now, not a bad job, as said remove drivers seat and it makes it a lot easier, you'll need a 13mm swivel socket and 10-12" extension. If you want to look at metal booster here is website. www.piratejack.net/brakebooster.html. Good luck.
Thanks for the input. I was pondering the differences. I wonder why the metal ones are so much cheaper and how reliable the remanufacture ones are. I really have not had a problem with quality remanufactured parts. Jack
Cardone comes with a lifetime warranty, I mean nobody wants to do the job over but I think this company has been around for a long time, when I get mine in if it don't work I'll be the first one to let you know!

I replaced mine with a metal Cardone one from Advance. The PITA was taking out the plastic one. The bolt stripped out inside the plastic booster, so I couldn't loosen the nut from the firewall. So I just pulled out the Recipacating saw and cut the booster off at the firewall. Putting the new one took only about 30 minutes. The key is to take the seat out which is real easy.
