I tried to start it up the other day and when I turned the key everything went out. All lights and power dropped. I opened the hood and disconnected the battery then reconnected it, when I shut the hood all the power came back, lights came on and all. So I tried again, but when I tried to turn it over same thing happened. I checked the fuses and none were blown, unless i missed some somewhere, but could it be the VATS? Or do I have a serious electrical problem? I don't know what's supposed to happen when the VATS isn't activated by the key. Are you supposed to lose all power?
When vats has a problem the starter enable signal is shut down, the security light will be on and the car will not crank over like you had a bad starter but its because the starter isnt getting any voltage to the solenoid, if all the lights went out, (no headlights, interior lights, radio) then it isnt vats, start at the battery and work your way in....
