What happens when your MAF goes bad? Symptoms? I presume that a bad MAF may still look okay (wires not broken) to the naked eye? After much troubleshooting on a bogging problem with my '89, the mech is now replacing the MAF. Just tryin' to be a semi-educated customer here.
thanx,
ron
The MAF is easy to trouble shoot, just disconnect the wires to the MAF, this will cause the car to run in the limp home mode (which is not that bad, only means ECM is only taking RPM's and coolent temp to calculate fuel mixture) if your problem goes away replace MAF. Symtoms of a bad MAF? My car felt like the fuel pump was cutting out and not supplying enough fuel.
The book says lightly tap on the MAF with the engine idling. If the engine stumbles or shuts down, the MAF is bad. Question is.....how lightly is "lightly"??

Thanks for the input. Yep, it was definitely acting like a fuel pick up problem under hard acceleration. That was the area first explored. The MAF has been replaced now and the mech. says it's runnin' great. Picking the car up at lunch today, so we'll see. Thanks again to you all for your input. Hope you and yours have a very Happy Thanksgiving...
