I drove my wifes 94 today, first time the car was out in about 6 months.
I noticed that when I got on it some, that the "brake" warning light would come on. It stayed on for a few seconds after I let off and then it went off.
It did this everytime I used a fair amount of pedal, like merging onto the interstate.
Has anyone experienced this? I am not much up on the cars after about 77, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Have you checked the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir? If it's low, that could be why the light is coming on. Fill it up with a good DOT3 brake fluid to the indicator line. Sometimes, just being a 1/4" below the full line is enough to turn the light on.
Did the pedal feel firm or did it go down a lot with hard stops? If the fluid has not been flushed in 3 years, then it might be time to have the old fluid flushed out and new fluid installed.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I will check the fluid in the morning.
I had a good pedal, just the light was coming on when I did the hard accelerating. I hope low fluid is the problem, but if the fluid is low, it had to go somewhere.
Please note that it is normal for the fluid in the master cylinder to decrease. This is due to the wear of the brake pads. As a result of brake pad wear, more of the fluid goes in and stays inside the calipers.
