This may be redundant, but,Im getting clogged cats removed, would ya go ahead and run true dual exhaust to the muffs or leave the Y pipe back?1994 lt1 car. Thanks Guys
The factory cats flow fairly well so it would be reasonable to replace them and not just dump them. Helps the air too. With true duals you would have to fab up bungs for the 02 sensors an put them in the right places.
The pipes aren't really a Y-pipe like the earlier C4's The center mounted resonator is basically a single chamber but two pipes in and two pipes out.
Removal of the resonator will make the car much louder (based on the mufflers you choose) but expect much more resonance inside the car especially at cruise speeds. The OEM mufflers are engineered to handle the exhaust note based on the cats and resonators being in place. Use them without those pieces and they could be real loud. Look at Corsa or Magnaflow mufflers to quiet things down and have a nice exhaust note.
