Default 4.10 Gears for D44

I want a set of 4.10's for my 96 LT4, and I have a few questions.

1.) Where is the best place to buy the gears? How much?
2.) Is there any other parts that I need?
3.) Is there any thing that I should replace while doing the swap?
4.) Does anyone know the R&R?

I have fluid and slip additive already.

Are you looking for shop to do this, or do you have experience setting up ring and pinons?

I would replace all the bearings in the rear end as well as seals. Replace all u joints as well since you have to pull the shafts but more importantly exhaust anyway. I like motive gears and timken bearings.

I've been running Dana OEM (Viper) 4.10's for 5 years without a problem.

Use the viper 4:10's, they setup nice and are quiet. Replace all bearings and seals.

Definately paying someone to do the work. LOL, yeah right!

So it sounds like:

OEM Dana Viper 4.10's, Replace Bearings & Seals, Gear Oil & Additive, and a trustworthy shop.

What kind of money are we talking?

About $500 here in Long Island if you bring them the center section and the gears.

Sounds like a winner for a stripper, but for a daily driver?

Better put in dual tanks

I'd suggest you have an experienced person looking over your shoulder if you've never done this before.

4.10 Viper gears here. Took the pumpkin to a differential shop who then installed the gears...they had them in stock.

I'm thinking of doing 3.73's I was going to get a new complete center section but the price of them are going up daily it seems. I think now I may just get the gears and use the OEM center.

Anyone know where to get a rear camber brackets? DRM used to have them and now there out and doesn't seem like they'll have them anytime soon. Sugguestions?

My car still gets ~28 mpg's on the highway with ~375 rwhp and 4.10 gears. At 70 mph and 4.10's, the M6 cars are still only turning 1850 rpms.

I wasnt a lucky one with the gears. I paid 430 for 4.11's from jawsgear.com and paid alot, ( to much to list) and they whine like ud never belive. But the guy is going to TRY and fix it. IM stuck on whats going to happend and what to tell him and do next. This sucks, But damn they are fun. A little bit of gas makes my tires spinnnnnnn..I have got my spedo corrected and it says im going 94 when im really going like 70 lol

I can't remember what I paid, but mine was a daily driver and it did not impact MPH......Did make 6th gear usable on the highway.

Also when I bought them they were advertised as hobbed and something else, I believe they were the viper gears (4.11) and I got them from a guy who sold them regulary on the forum. Granted I am going back to early forum days

Best mod I ever did on my LT4, just get someone who is really good to do it. I had a guy here in Atlanta, and they never whined once. put over 80k on that ring and pinion

They should not whine at all. I have installed 5 or 6 sets over the last few years and not one has whined. Maybe I am doing something wrong if everyone elses 410s whines Neverless my advice is to find someone that knows how to do these rear ends, you need a GM Special tool to spread the case to remove the carrier, anyone that tells you its not needed is a butcher. You CAN pry it out with a large pry bar, but when it comes time to reinstall it into the housing they can damage the case by forcing it into place. All the bearings and seals as mentioned earlier should be replaced at the time. Even the stub shaft seals and bearings should be replaced. But if they look OK, those bearings are the only ones I would leave in place as long as the left and right stub shafts are not mixed up. However always replace the seals at the stub shafts, otherwise its a bitch to have to remove it again to replace the seals.
