Hi, I have a 1990 and on cold mornings, when first start out and I make a right turn, my horn honks. I have been in FL for a year and forgot about this, but now I am in SC for a few months working as a contractor. When I got up this morning and started to work, as soon as I turned my steering wheel to the right, my horn started honking. This moring it honked all the way through the subdivision. I don't know how many folks I woke up at 5:30. Does anybody have a suggestion as to what is causing this. It only happens on very cold mornings. Never any other time.
Sorry nothing constructive but it is officially one of the strangest problems I've ever heard. Perhaps a short or something binding in the steering assembly? Although it doesn't do much to explain the cold part.
I'll have to wait and see what greater minds then mine think.
Well, at least I brought a smile to somebody, but I wasn't smiling this morning trying to get through the subdivision before I woke everybody up and someone spotted my car. It is more embarassing when I am behind someone or in traffic and it starts honking. It is the strangest thing I've ever encountered. It would happen often when I was in Georgia, but like I said, only on very cold mornings. NEVER any other time. I hate to unplug it, because then I'll need it.
My 2005 Mercury did this too. There is a TSB from Mercury about the clock spring(Gadget inside the steering wheel). Sorry, no real advice just a comment.
It is the horn button in the middle of the steering wheel. My 1896 will honk on cold morning also. When it starts honking pull the horn button off the center of the steeing wheel, at least it will stop honking. I tried switching to a different horn button and still had the problem.

Thanks, but I have two thumb buttons on the sides of my steering wheel, maybe one of them is sticking.
