I read your thread on Digital Corvettes to, it sounded there like your stock pump was fine. I would just reuse it. I changed the water pump on mine at 100,000 miles and it was not tough. I did not have to take much apart to change it. Get your moneys worth out of it and change it later when it's bad. FYI the Stewart pumps are good and at a nice price.
most oem pumps and discount store rebuilds use an impeller that is formed from flat steel and are great for idling at a stoplight with the a/c on...at high rpm that impeller likely cavitates and engine cooling STOPS (this is not desirable for extended periods, but ''might'' be useful for very short duration such as drag racing)
''high performance'' pumps ''should'' (some don't) have an impeller that is a cast, curved blade design...moves more water at all speeds.
prob is that you can't see the impeller without disassembling the pump...look (investigate) before you leap.
