Well I am going to have to do it. I have figured out that the computer problems that I am having with my car are the result of serial communication drop out from the ECM. Thus the only data that I can get from the ECM is flashing trouble codes when something is wrong. So if I want to start scanning my ECM (I just built my cable) I am going to have to fix it or replace it.
I have observed this problem to be intermittent. This is typical for a loose connection or partially failed semiconductor device. I have been in mt ECM a couple of times and can see no signs of corrosion or damage. Also I cannot locate any schematics so I have decided to go ahead and change out all of the 220 package amps since they are more prone to failure than most of the other components.
I would like to ask you all if anyone out there has a diagram of any kind for a 92 LT1 ECM?
Have any of you performed any ECM repairs before? I have done a repair on a Ford one once so I am not afraid of the task ahead.
Dude, They were out of stock...only offer to send mine in to rebuild
Dude... I got the same answer. Even after some hard sweetalking!
Seriously... I opened it up again and decided it was going to be a lot more difficult than trading out a couple of IC's. I am at the point now that I would buy one but they are not available. I may have to attempt a repair but it would be nearly impossible without a schematic. That little golden piece of info seems to be non-existant.
Here's a shot in the dark for you. Are there any electrolytic caps inside the ecm? Those buggers get old and dry out after a few years. I have fixed the power supply twice on my router by just replacing one of the electrolytics. They start out light blue in color and the plastic case turns dark brown when they go bad from heat.
92 an 93 use the same ECM. They were also used on LT1 Camaros, Firebirds, SS Impalas and I guess some Cadillacs. You just have to locate a ECM with the proper part number and install your Prom.
Good luck finding schematics. GM repairs ECM and won't give out the prints. Everything has to be reversed engineered by outsiders.
I bought a replacement from a 92 or 93 Camaro and it was very clean.
Here is a link for PCM repair. This is the most detailed one I have found with interesting tech info (and I have looked). Even though it is for the PCM, the ECM is similar and some of the repair processes might be applicable.

Just took some pics of my spare "Cardone " rebuilt ECM. Got this one off E Bay.
There is a chip or I'm not too sure what you call that piece, that is burnt. Would I be able to buy that item and repair the ECM?
Can someone tell me the "trick" to removing the circuit board from its metal housing. I am having ECM problems, and would like to replace the electrolytic capacitor that I can see on the board.
I have removed the 4 screws that hold the memcal door, removed four more screws with rubber washers, removed 4 "sheet metal"-style of screws in the front around the plugs, and four "star" screws that are also near the plugs.
Something still seems to be holding the unit together. Can anyone help?
