I'm looking at an 87 convertable that has a flood title. I'm a C3 guy so I don't know much about C4s. It appears to be in very nice condition. The guy selling it says it was'nt in a flood. What should I look for. It's black with red interior & looks real clean. Where is the vin # located ?

Have you driven the car? Does everything work?
Could have been 'restored' but I would do some checking.
Pull up the carpet on either the driver or passenger side and look for dirt. Sand specifically.
You could pull the rear carpet too and check there.
There's got to be a reason it has a 'flood' title.

Then why the flood title? Unless it is either A1 condition and nothing is wrong, and/or it is the steal of all time, personally I would keep looking. There are good deals out there on C4's. Do the flood titles work like salvage titles, you can only insure it for half the value of the car? That is a big thing to think about IMO.
VIN# is at the base of windshield, drivers side. Good luck.
