I am having a problem with my OD not wanting to shift on and off when I press down on the tab on my gear shift. My car is an 88 L98 4+3. I took the cap off today and everything seems to be fine. There is a little T shaped piece that gets depressed.
I tried driving it without the cap on and it still had problems shifting in and out of OD. Any ideas on what I should do next to fix it? One other thing, when it does shift, everything is smooth and it works fine.
If you decide to remove the "t" rod, COUNT the number of turns it took to remove it and WRITE IT DOWN. If it is indeed just the momentary switch in the shifter, you can do a search here for a replacement since I believe the OEM is no longer available. I ended up buying an entire shifter assembly several years ago before learning about this.
It is probably one of three items. Bad switch, bad relay or bad ground. My problem was the switch. Search forum for diagram and instructions to replace the switch.
