Default help interior lighting

On my 84,....It started with the door courtesy lights not completely shutting off...There was a backfeed of power somewhere to theses lights,as they would faintly glow after the 10 sec delay shut off.... so I thought that there was a time delay relay that went bad, wasn't completely shutting down....but I can't find one anywhere in the car....Now they only work with the headlight switch, and the 2 hatch releases in either door do not work...No blown fuses....I need some advice

I replaced the interior light timer in my 86 for a similar problem except mine is a vert so don't know about the hatch release. In my 86 the timer delay is located behind the pass side crash pad taped to a wiring harness it's very hard to get to from under the dash, it's located in front of the ECM and even with the ECM out I couldn't get my hands on it. I ended up taking the crash pad out and replaced it with a flat panel and I replaced the timer at the same time. Check everything else first because it is a PITA.
ps Oh and the part is discontinued so there hard to find, sometimes show up on e-bay

robertt43,

Not sure of the differences between your year and our 1994, but based on our 94, it sounds like either a problem with your door switches not working (aka curtesy light switches) or your parking brake switch not working, and or both.

On our 94, if the door switches do not tell the CCM that the door is open, it will not turn on the interior lights and turn off the radio, nor allow either hatch button to function (safety feature to prevent accidental release of the hatch while driving). If the switch does not tell the CCM the door is closed, it will not turn off the light, nor set the security alarm sytem.

On our 2000 TransAM, if the parking brake is not set, it will not allow the rear hatch switch to operate.

On our 94, there is a way of displaying the different CCM input's statuses, if the same is true with your year (check your FSM), that might be a way of telling what is going on.

Default Timer delay

I found the delay,on my 84,behind the panel on the right side....Hidden behind the computor.....They have been discontinued....I did find a company in British Columbia that handles all of GM discontinued parts, but they don't have any either...the phone number is 1-800-4144462 if anyone needs it....However I don't think it was the problem......I bypassed the delay and the lights still didn't work.....So I have to look somewhere else....There is no power going to the lights thru the door switches, and no power going to the hatch releases in the doors either.....Thanks.....

There is no power at any of those switches, they supply ground to the circuits.
