Default Need help with opti install

I am doing some work on my fiancee's 92. I am putting a new cap and rotor on the opti. I also replaced the valve seals and adjusted the valves so the engine was turned while the opti was off the engine.

How do I reinstall the opti once the engine has been turned? The shop manual only give instructions if the engine has not been turned. The shaft is not indexed and can be installed in any position.

Thanks

If you look at the opti there are 2 teeth that have filler between the v gap. on the drive shaft there is one missing tooth.
Line those two up and it should pop right on.

Absolutely . The short shaft or spine has this on both ends of it. Just look carefully at the engine and the opti and you will see the matching missing tooth. I always insert the shaft and turn the engine till the flat area is at 12:00. Then I set the opti at 12:00 also and slip on. It should slip on rather easy and contact the timing cover flush with a slight tink as it hits. The bolts should not pull the opti to the engine, but only hold it on. And yes it is very possible to mis-align it and force it on. Of course the engine never starts.

Always change the seals in the timing over for the opti and water pump, its your last chance.

I always start the engine (for a minute) before I install the water pump so I know all is good and the engine starts and runs. Just temporally connect the MAF. And the it is best to connect the temp sensor in the pump. Just lay on top of the MAF, the wires will reach.

Taking you time, being exact and correct, you will only have to do it once.
