I went to the hardware store and bought a 1/8" SS rod that I cut to the correct length then bent the top 1/4" over 90 degrees and slid it into the black plastic "holder" in the pic. $2 and worked great.
Could you give me some clarification as to what you did exactly. My black plastic holder dosent have any spot to latch the quarter inch bend. How did you physically attach the rod to the slider???
Before you had trouble with yours do you know from the factory that if the black plastic holder is fixed to the rod or not???
Mine didn't even have a rod in it when I bought the car. The 1/8" rod fits pretty snug in the opening so I just bent over the top of the rod to hold it in place when you pull up to put it in reverse. Once I got the length I needed I put the top 1/4" in a vice (crushed it flat) and bent it over 90*. I don't have the tranny anymore so I can't take pics (sorry).
I'll try this from memory....
1)If the shifter is in the car just slide the SS rod into the holder until it bottoms out. (**w/ shift **** off and in reverse)
2) Move the shifter to N. Slide the rod down another 1/4"-1/2". Now you should have the rod down far enough to act like a "stop" and you shouldn't be able to put it in reverse w/ out raising the rod w/ the "trigger/holder".
3) If it won't go into Reverse while raising the trigger then you need to raise the rod a little to clear the stop.
4) Mark the rod when you have the right spot and cut it. I bent the top over but I guess you could epoxy it in the holder or whatever you want to keep it from moving.
FWIW, I adjusted my linkage after I added the stop and it made it feel like a new car.
You can see in his pic that the rod has a clip ring at the top. Is that what your missing ?? The **** just pulls the rod up to allow the shifter to go into reverse.
