My 94 LT1 auto has a very slow leak from the transmission ...few drops a day at most. Is this something I should be concerned about? It drives fine and seems to shift just fine-no erratic shifting or anything unusal. The car has 79k miles. I have only had the car about a month and never noticed the leak until I cleaned out my garage and started parking it there.
I must admit, I am not even 100% sure it is the transmission. I dont have a lift or any way of telling for sure exactly where the leak is coming from (front to back, it's right about even with where the A pillar and dash come together and right below the center of the car). The fluid coming out is pretty transparent with a slight orange tint to it (could only tell this after wiping it off the floor with a white cloth.) I assumed that meant transmission.
I just hope this doesn't mean a $1500+ hit to the pocket book. I can't afford it now. Hope its just a seal or something thats < $100 to fix.
May be the front seal, dipstick tube or pan leaking. Lots of possibilities. Front seal requires removing the trans to fix. If you keep the level up it can last a very long time with a leak. Dont be lazy about checking and adding, and you should be ok for a while. I would get it up in the air to have a good look soon so I would know what to expect.
If you put a sheet of aluminum foil under it to catch the drip it will make it easier to tell what it is. Most likely the pan gasket which is a fairly easy if somewhat messy repair.
