Default DTC Code Reader, what is best?

I'm looking to buy a DTC code reader, to read my Corvette, my NISSAN and my FORD truck. The Corvette is a 1994, and the oldest. Is it necessary to get CAN capability?

Any advice is appreciated.

The 94 Vette can just about read everything through the DIC(Maybe Everything?)
Any car or truck 96 or newer will need OBDII, The 94 Vette is OBDI

Yes, but it's a bit of a pain to work the cable with the paperclip. I'd rather use a handheld scan tool and my other vehicles don't have digital dashes.

Default Update on my decision....

I just bought a Actron 9190. Hopefully, I can read all my vehicles, both OBD 1 and 2 and it comes with quite a few cables. It also records real time data while the machine is running.

It's cheaper than the laptop route and easier to use, in my opinion.
