The reliability problems that I have read about don't start happening until you're spinning over 6200 rpm on a regular basis. I shift my car around 5200 but that is because of the power curve.

My L98 had over 85000 miles when I did most of that. No real problems 40000 later. Then it got freshened up and more mods. The key is getting a good chip tune from the start.
