Has anyone tore down
an engine that has ran with a performance chip for 20K + miles. I am curious how the chip effected the reliability and condition of the combustion chambers, piston tops and valves. It seems that the Manufacturers chip the engines to run at an A/F ratio of @12-1. The parts mentioned will survive but seem to have too much carbon deposits for the proper A/F of 14.7-1. Can you engine guys offer any opinions based on experiences with engine rebuilds?

It will be fine, at cruising conditions the chip runs the same air fuel ratio as stock. The O2 sensor monitors the air/fuel ratio and adjusts it to 14.7 : 1, just like stock. Mail order chips for the most parts only changes WOT settings.
