Default Trans question

Hi please tell me what year the 4+3 trans was replaced with the real 6 speed in the c4 vettes.Thanks

The 4+3 was used 1984 through 1988. The 6 speed started in 1989 and continued through 1996, the end of C4 production.

Two models were available. "Black tag" & "blue tag". The black tags were in the 89-93s, blue in 94-96. (If the years are wrong, someone please correct it.) The black are stronger (rated at 450 lbs. torque) while the blue are quieter and rated at 400 lbs.

Check the C4 Technical notes at the top of this section. Lots of info there.

I concur. I had an '89 several years back, and it had the 6-spd.

FYI: nice tranny, but mine (and others of that ilk I've heard of) had third-gear synchros that were less than long-term prospects.

Can the 4+3 be replaced with the 6 Speed tranny? Is there a kit?

i be innerested in that last question too....and can a standard tranny shop do it??? mines fine i think...but have seen alot of replacin goin on

Anything can be swapped into anything, given enough time, money, and effort. I am not aware of any kit, but I know it has been done. Check the search function, because I believe there has been quite a bit written on the subject.

You need all the parts from a ZF6 car including the tunnel section to graft in where the shifter mounts.
C beam back the same but need ZF6 yoke.
Start looking at junkyards.
