Default What Gauge Functions ?

I like the look of the 2 gauge instrument pod that mounts to the A pillar but, if I do it, I want it also to be useful/functional.
That said, what 2 gauge functions/measurements would you advise for this install in an LT1 A4?

Thanks, Steve

I am running a mechanical oil and temp on mine. I just don't trust electrical guages I guess.

Fuel pressure, O2 or trans temp would be good.

I thought the LT1 cars had a trans temp? I can't think of much you would need and would recomend the money to be spent on something else. I put a trans temp in mine but it has no stock gauge. I also put in an oil pressure gauge so I do not have to use the stock switch to flip from water temp to oil temp, on the track. I do no favor the pillar pod though and mounted them in the dash.

I have an 84 with carb conversion and I run a D-Pic and an Air fuel meter. I like it there and I think it looks trick.

The LT1 cars don't have a trans temp gauge. I had thought about putting the A-pillar gauges in mine. I'd go with fuel pressure gauge and A/F ratio gauge.

Also you could go Vacuum and A/F which would be a very "active" gauge setup. They both would be bouncing around all the time.

Default pillar later

Just doing a gauge project. Having lost the fuel computations to the TPI conversion, I punted the switches, favoring AutoMeter Cobalt (excellent quality and included parts) for oip pressure and coolant temp. Today, I soldered the 'hard' connections to retain all available dash displays, adding a momentary contact pushbutton switch for trip odo reset. Here's the new DIC ready for connections and mounting.

I also bought the AutoMeter pillar mount, which nicely fits the existing trim, not being a 'universal' piece, and only a bit more costly.

I plan to 'pod' an A/F meter and rear end temp. to watch things on this hot rod, after these are in, and when I figure out how to get the A/F fed w/o a second O2 sensor.

A/F is pretty useless unless you are putting in the expensive wideband. I had an A/F in a previous turbo car and the little bars that go up were not useful for tuning, same for fuel pressure. If you are doing your own computer tune on the car then fuel pressure may help as will the wideband. I have not used nitrous yet.

It looks like just the '95 and '96 cars have the trans temp gauge, I looked into it more.

I am still deciding on whether or not to go with nitrous. If I do nitrous, I will run a dual pod with a fuel pressure gauge and a nitrous pressure gauge (NX has just come out with one that looks really nice!).
