Default need opinion on this rotating assembly

I have a few questions about the kit below

1 what would be the max # of hp i could shoot with n2o
2 any experience with this site
3 any problems with pump gas (11:1 CR sould be find right?)
4 any experience with this brand of pistons (keith black)

http://www.tommyjohnsons.com/catalog...oducts_id=1108

PS this motor is not for my corvette

Your link is broke.

But to answer some of the questions.

1. See #4.
2. I personally have never heard of them or delt with them.
3. Problems? Yes. 11.1 on pump gas is pushing it depending on how much seat timing your camshaft has. 11.1 on pump gas could detonate quite a bit, then add in some NO2 and it's a very bad idea.
4. KB pistons are a good prouduct. Depending on which ones are in the kit (Forged or Hyperutectic) there could be some complications with your set up. KB Hyperutectic pistons are nicely made and machined pistons that require alot of ring end gap and will not stand up to ANY detonation. Notice I said ANY, they are very brittle and well know for cracking the top ring land when used with NO2 or when pre igniton/detonation happens even when run normally aspriated. They are only good for street cars with low compression (under 10.1) that will NEVER see NO2 IMO. The KB forged pistons are a very good part for the money. Quite light and as good or better than any entry level forged piston (ie Probe, SRP, TRW). As long as you set your ring end gaps properly (so you don't but the top ring) and your NO2 tune up is good they will last forever. If your tune up is not so good... they will stand SOME abuse, but anything (even the $600+ a set custom ROSS's in my race car) can be burned if abused long enough. How long depends on how bad. As for HP numbers: KB Hyperutectics - I NEVER use NO2 on them in a customers motor. KB Forged, Depends on your level of expertise with NO2 tuning. My brothers little 306 Ford is running a 300HP TOP GUN plate kit and has for 2yrs without a problem. Your results may vary.

I agree on what rklessdriver said on #4.
I had a KP hypereutectic failure.. the same rklessdriver said.
And check (I repeat CHECK EVERY piston for size). I had a friend that needed to buy 2 additional pistons from KB because the size was not the same in the same piston box. (one slightly more than +.030 and the other slightly less than +.030 )

OK I re-checked the parts in your new link.

The kit your linked to has a Scat 9000 series cast crankshaft and Scat's base rods with 3/8 rod bolts. KB 112's are Hyperutectic pistons.

Rods and Crank will stand 500HP TOTAL at the max and 6500rpm if balanced machined and assembled properly. If it had ARP 2000 3/8 bolts it would be good for another 50HP or so depending but... I know that particular rod very well (used many of them in the past) and it just has the regular ARP 8740 bolt.

You already know my position on the pistons.

Since you never have given your HP goals and application for this engine I can't offer any more specific advice.

As for other places to check out. On the internet I like CNC-Motorsports and Competition Prouducts. By forum rules I can't link you to non supporting vendors - so do a google search.

It's almost the same kit (same cast crank, same rods) only with a good set Forged pistons (HRC are made by Ross for Howards/CP), so it will stand a small shot of NO2 like a common 150HP Plate kit.

Be careful with your heads and camshaft, do not exceed 500HP TOTAL.

A few other things. These pistons are flat tops so you are going to have to be careful with your combustion chamber size to keep your compression ratio in check. Also it dosen't say what rod length, but IMO 5.7 rods would be more advantageouse for you with NO2 due to the taller ring stack (compression height) on the piston (it would with stand detonation a little better) and the higher piston speed (better scavenging on the exhaust stroke).

IMO, With these goals (750 hp ) you need a ALL forged rotating assy.
Not a $700 kit

Your gonna need something more like one of these for 600-700hp. They all range from $1000.00-$1700.00 in price. For the money the Scat kits from CNC are probally the best fit for you.

Shafiroff is having a sale on high HP crates. If you dont check any of the options boxes you can pick up a phone, give them your CC# and be done with it. Kind of.
