Default Hood open latch

The latch that you pull on to open the hood has unattched itself in my car (insert long dramatic story here), so that I have to pull on the wires with pliers whenever I want to raise the hood. If the wires were the same length it would be an easy fix, but apparently the GM thought that would be far too simple. Also, the piece that held the wires together and in place won't hold the wires anymore, when there is any force pulling on them (as in opening the hood). If anybody knows a simple fix for this, that would save me from having to get "creative", it would be helpful.

I am dreading the day that somebody wants me to open 'er up, to see the engine, and I have to reach for the pliers...

Get a new set. I bought a brand new set off of ebay for about $35. Installation isn't all that easy, but also not all that hard. It makes SUCH a nice difference. :)

That little metal springy peice that holds the cables in place does NOT come with a new handle unit if you buy one. You will see that the clip on the "driver" side of the unit is larger than the passenger one. To install them correctly, put the driver side cable in place in the clip, then screw the clip into place. Then once you have it screwed in, the passenger side peice being smaller is easier to bend/move out of the way to snap the passenger cable in. It took me quite a long time to figure that procedure out, and some slit fingers. :)

importeater- do a search on this forum for "hood" or "stuck hood" or whatever and you will find lots of info on this problem or you can order a tool from most of the corvette parts places that will open it for $20-$30...
