I have a 91 Coupe with the Bose radio/cassette system. It was working fine until recently. Now, the light works on the display, as does the clock. The electric antenna works fine. But I just get static from any radio station and/or if I play a cassette tape.
Does anyone have ideas of how to fix? Who fixes these type issues? And do you know if I could swap the radio cassette with a radio/CD. I was an option in 91.
Well you have two options, check the ground on the head unit and also check for any loose connectors. Or send your unit in to numerous different vette aftermarket vendors for a rebuild. You could also try a junk yard or the corvette salvage website.
Click here and follow the link for head unit removal:
in my first '90 back when i had that one, the very next day after purchase i noticed the factory unit was bose.
as soon as i saw that name, i yanked the head unit and the speakers -- and promptly too a 10 lb. sledgehammer to it all. it was working perfectly, i just hate bose.
i still have the factory unit my current '90, as i don;t plan on buying an aftermarket system. i don't want to be putting a single more dollar into it, as i'll be selling the car in another year or so.

Steve,
Go here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=941281 And read all about our radios and what goes wrong w/ them. There is a vendor there, Dr Don's, who can fix your radio and sell you a rebuilt one w/ a CD player.
Steve,
Fill out your proifile so we can easily check it and see where you live. There might be a local person in your area who might have some answers that would direct you to a local repair shop with out shipping it out.
