Ok I decided to go with the trick flow G2 heads on my 86 coupe. The question I have, what cam I should use to get the best performance out of these heads. Im not changing the stall converter or gearing. So would it be worth changing the cam or should I stay stock ? :chevy
If your not planning on doing any mods ever that would chose one cam, and if you are going to do some mods, TB, runners, and intake base, and headers. Then I would say a different cam. I would suggest ZZ-9, or XE268H-14
I don't remember if '86 has a roller cam or not. So you might have to do lifters too.
If you plan on other mods I too would suggest the cam (and lifters if needed); if not just do the other mods. I haven't touched heads or cam yet and picked up about 60hp at the crank from the other stuff.
I have some mods data you may find useful; you've got mail.
My reported test data changing to the Super Profile cam (installed at 106 deg ATDC) in the '90 L98 shows a gain of about 2.5mph in trap speed or about 25hp at the crank. That was before they did other major mods but after the Fast Pack, etc. mods.
