HID headlamp Install
You'll need to order a HID kit for an H4 bulb setup and order a set of headlamps that accept an H4 bulb. I ordered a glass lens headlamp. You can get either of your choice. If you order a higher Kelvin rating than 6000k, you'll lose the light (Lumens) and gain a purplish color. This will be your preference.
First open your hood and manually rotate your headlamp motor to "pop" up your headlight. you gain access to the two screws on both sides of the cover. these should be phillips screws. you then remove the two 15 Torx screws on the inside .You'll see the two tabs. It might be easier to rotate the motor back to have a better access to them. . Remove the cover.
F or this part, lower the hood to work around the headlight.Next remove the 4 phillips screws that hold the chrome headlamp retainer ring. Remove the ring. Pull the headlamp assy out enough to unplug the wiring from the lamp. Remove the lamp and install your new headlamp in it's place. Reinstall the retainer ring. The kit is usually plug and play. Some kits have the wiring and socket separate. If you get one that has the socket not preinstalled, make sure you wire it correctly.
The brown wire is for the low beams , the green is for high, and the black will be your ground.
Install your new HID bulb in your headlamp and make sure it is seated properly. Do not touch the bulb with your fingers!!. If you do, make sure you wipe it off good with a clean rag. Plug your connectors all together. Wind the harness together neatly and zip tie together to keep it tidy and out of harms way when it rotates up and down. There is usually a piece of two-way tape that comes with the kit. This is to adhere the ballast somewhere flat. You can attach to the bottom of the area inside the headlamp assy. Just make sure the ballast doesn't bounce around in there.
Lift open the hood. Next thing is to rotate the motor to the closed position. This is the exciting part .Turn on the headlamps to check it's operation. If everything looks OK, shut off headlights.
Double check the wiring is all tied up well and reinstall the painted cover with the 4 screws and start on the other side!. I took photos of the steps up to the end. I ordered a slim ballast kit, but the wrong one came in. I was impatient and installed the regular kit. I haven't had good weather here, so I'm not able to tell you if the headlamps need to be realigned. Hopefully this helps the members that had questions on this subject.

Meant to post this in the Technical or General. anybody know how to redirect?

I ordered a set of glass headlamps on an auction site and a set of slim digital ballast HIDs. The quality of the lamps were OK, but I received the regular ballast kit from the supplier by mistake. (I'm still trying to straighten that out
) . I installed a set of glass HELLA headlamps and installed a regular ballast set I already had. I install HIDs around my area and try to keep all different type bulb kits in stock. Once you get your kit installed, you'll love them

one more question...
are your fog lamps still functional?
i ask this, because, the fog lamp relay uses the high beam filament of the conventional H4 bulb for getting grounded..a have the schematic im my shop manual..(ok, this is a 90, but i don´t think, the schematic is that different from your 94)
so, when the ballast is wired in, is this still functional?
thank you

crap
...just went out to the garage to check them. nope no lamps. I tried with the headlights on and w/o. never thought to check the driving lamps. oh well, gotta get the FSM out and find which wire to ground out. thanks for the heads upI'm guessing it's the same wire that would unground when you switch to highbeams...

i just looked at my shop manual
its the green high beam wire, thats getting grounded via the high beam filament
i would try, to wire in a 68 ohm resistor from the green wire to ground..
that should give 12/68 = 176mA, enough to drive the relais, when low beam is on
otherwise, when high beam is on, 12*0,176 = 2,11 Watts..so use at least a 4 watt resistor
that should do the trick
let me know, if you try it, and whats coming out

I have some resistors left over from another project that I could try out. when it get's a little warmer, I get into it.
If someone else already has HIDs installed and tackled this problem, please chime in.
actually yes. I'm checking out the quality of this so called digital slim ballasts they have out now. either way they sell it ; 50.00 +24.00 shipping, 24.00 + 50.00 shipping, 70.00+ 4.00 shipping, or 74.00 with free shipping. it's all the same to me. I just ordered whomever had the cheapest total price. the shipping prices on that website kills me. I usually don't order from sellers that rip you off in shipping prices, but he had the only digital HID ballasts for that cheap price. he even screwed up and sent me the wrong ballasts. He's sending me the slim ballasts. in the meantime, I installed these to make sure the lamps didn't have any issues.

the headlamps themselves range from 25.00 to 100.00. it all depends on what you want. they have the plastic lens or glass lens kits out there. I bought a set of the glass lens recently for 31.00 delivered. the quality seems OK, but I am also comparing them to a set of Hella brand lamps that I also have. different materials for different reasons. some might want the plastic lens because of the weight reduction. it might help in prolonging the life of the motors, plus they won't crack like their glass counterparts.

i just tried out, an old relay in line wiht a 55 Ohm resistor..it works...
so, usw a standard 47 Ohm, that should work well...but use at least a 4 watt resistor

how much are the kits
