That pretty much is it. As long as it is operating correctly, you are doing a good thing by changing the F&F. :) What fluid are you going to put back into it? I put in Mobil 1 Synth ATF and it has been great.
You could make up a 1/8" x 5/8" x 1 1/4" long tab on a piece of steel strap and adjust the rods...
Also check the reverse lockout rod (the long rod from the reverse lockout collar under the ****) and if it's worn, get it welded up and filed down round again to make a nice tight fit...
If the shift rod links are sloppy sideways, fit new spring clips...
Not really maintenance but just passing on some advice from our local vette guys. It seems it is the heat that cooks the OD unit. We are adding a transmission oil cooler and remote filter to add oil volume and cooling ability. Seems logical and shouldn't be able to hurt anything. bf

I second that notion. If you're going to race, I'd buy one of the tranny coolers with AN-type fittings. If just street toolin', I'd got down to your local auto parts store and get one of the black, multi-pass coolers vs. the shiny single-tube coolers. The remote tranny filter uses a typical oil filter than can filter out stuff alot smaller than your simple screen filter can. You can also flush out your stock cooler and lines by disconnecting the lines at the tranny, and flushing solvent, followed by compressed air, and then clean tranny fluid through them.
