Does anyone know what steps are necessary to do this? I just go the new black leather boot cover and realized I would probably need to remove half the pieces on the middle console to do it.
There are also four small holes at each corner of the new boot cover, any idea what these are for?
the 4 holes are for the screws that mount it to the center console. Not sure the year of your car or if auto/manual.
I just did nine when I did my interior swap for an 85 auto. All in all it is not to hard if you take your time but you do have to remove the center console and the center console frame. Be carefull when removing your shifter **** if an auto as it requires the removal of a c clip. if you don't hold it tight it will fly away :-)
Yes and no:
-pry out the shifter button
-use long nose C-clip plyers to remove the C-clip inside the shifter ****
-remove the shifter ****
-remove the screws holding the shifter cover plate, including the one inside the center console
-once you lift the shifter console up off the shifter stick, flip it over to see how the shift boot is attached
-remove the old boot, install the new one and put it all back together
if you don't hold it tight it will fly away :-)[/QUOTE]
How does the automatic shift **** come off, before getting to the C-Clip? Unscrew it by hand?
Some have said it may not be necessary to remove center console panel but I disagree, there are no screws present on the outside of my shift boot right now.

The only thing holding it on there is the C clip, its on there really really tight though. The manual shift **** screws on but not the auto.
Shift ****--Gently pry up on the center button. It will come off without effort. Look down the exposed recess in the ****. See a 'C' clip. Remove clip, lift ****.
To change the boot you must remove the console cover. Can't remember how many screws but do recall there are two in the console. With all screws out and the shift in ,maybe Drive, lift the cover. See the comment about the lighter plug. Turn the cover over and see the 4 screws that hold the boot. Caution: those 4 screws are in a metal speed nut glued to posts on the cover. After so many years the plastic becomes brittle. Exercise caution.
Two guesses as to who just went thru all this.
