Looks like my ribbon cable snapped on my regulator. Just pulled the door panel and picked up the replacement Chrysler ribbon. Question - can the ribbon be replaced w/o removing the glass and regulator, or does it all have to come out? '86 coupe, driver's side.
I was able to push the track forward enough to slide the new ribbon down the track between the door and window. I had someone else hold the ribbon so it would feed straight (from the top of the door), while I spread the nylon sash as it sat down near the gear of the motor. Then I bumped the power window switch in very small increments to feed the ribbon through the gears.
If the ribbon binds on the sash or at the door opening while bumping the PW switch, the ribbon will snap. You have to shorten the Chrysler cable, so I practiced on the leftover piece the 2nd time .
Sounds like it would have been a good time for installing the updated regs. I just did mine this weekend, wow, what a difference.
I have 2 old style regs with ribbons, for free, if anyone wants them.
Forum vendor Corvette Recyclers has new GM regs with all parts for $99 a side. GM wants $300 a side.
I'm going to put a video together showing both at real time speed, in a side by side video. Stay tuned.
Very easy to do the upgrade as well!! And, as Agent86 stated, it is extremely worth it!!!! Upgraded both of mine last month. My old regulators are in a land fill now.
