If the key doesn't show any ohms, then that's your problem.

I think if you use the search there was a post on how to by pass the VATS. I would just go to a GM dealer and have a new key made as you know what the ohm is.

Take off the lower panel on the driver side and you'll see two small wires that head up the steering column toward the ignition cylinder. Yellow and brown if I recall correctly, but I'm not positive. You'll need to wire resistors between these wires equal to the value of your VATS code. This method costs about $.50 from Radio Shack or buy the kit from Ecklers for $30 that does the same thing.

What was the OHMS setting, if you had it set to 1k +, you will read 0. Need it to be set to 1 or is it 10, cant remember.

the key read 8 ohms when I bought her, checked it to order another key, even had someone else check it and it doesn't read anything. I ordered the bypass from Ecklers

There are 15 key codes each relating to a specific resistance. Key code #1 is the lowest resistance which is 402 ohms. 8 ohms is not a realistic value and was probably measured wrong. The range of resistance goes up to 11,800 ohms. If you know what key code you have, you then can come up with the appropriate resistance using the chart.

If you know the number its probably easier to just make a few new keys.

Absolutely if the car and vats are working properly. A good locksmith can probably fix you up for about $15.

Hi Jimi/Louis....Are you guys bridging across both resisters??(bumps on the key) Are the bats dead in your multimeter?? Should be a piece of cake.

I have a Fluke Clamp Meter model 333 will Not adjust. Checks ac.dc.ohmm and amps ( clamp end CAT III 600V 400 amp) ) used the + and - on the key like you posted " Nothing " 0.0 on screen. Touched + and - and a buzzer sounds. Meter works. Corvette works but not able to turn On alarm. I have new fob and have tried several times with several pages of step by step instructions on doing this. It gets much more detailed than what is in the Red GM books that are for a 96 Corvette only. Purchased a VCR with instructions and a CD that had instructions on doing this.......sigh.

Possible your clamp meter is limited to wire/cable readings only. Take your key to a Radio shack & have the dude do a point to point contact reading on those 2 resisters. Post your resistances & former VATS nbr. I'll ck for applicable VATS nbr & publish my findings directed to you.
Should work.

Thanks, will do that and borrow a different meter. See if both readings are the same.
