i have an 86 with the 4+3. I cant decide if i should beef it up ( if its possible) or get a new one. If i get a new one i need options, im in college and cannot afford a ridiculously priced transmission, and i also don't feel like cutting the entire car apart to get one to fit, i am willing to do my own install but am not experienced in welding, so cutting and welding is out of the question. I am in the process of tryin to make some big power ( as far as my budget allows) so i need the tranny to hold up!

Build a 700r4 up. They can come in under $1500 for a decent one. Or a 4L60 or 80 with a manual valve body.
tearin trannys out of corvette's seems wrong, lol, i was thinkin about building a 700r4 but will the 4l60e bolt in? if not what do i need, and what do i have to do to the computer?

I'm not sure of the direct bolt in of the 4l60 but never mind the E at the end. Get a manual valve body so you don't need to screw with the computer. You just shift it like a manual minus the clutch. But a built 700r4 would be great. They can take lots of power if built right.
