Default Retrofit Gear Drive Window Regulators

Hello, My '85 does not seem to have any "FERRO TAPE MOUNTING SLOT AT MIDDLE BOTTOM OF DOOR", as indicated in the PFD file destructions for a '86 retrofit, herein.

Does anyone have another dimensional reference point for the location of the 6mm bolt holes that need to be drilled to fasten the regulator assembly to the bottom of the door ????

Also, the metal door insert panel than contains the interior door pull, is fastened with several screws and one rivet, almost directly above the handle. The destructions do not specify, but would like to verify that rivet should be drilled out to facilitate the removal of the panel for proper regulator install.

Thanks in Advance ... !!!!

You don't need to drill any rivets to remove inner panel. Remove the perimeter screws and 1 or 2 bolts, and slide it down, tilt the top out and remove it. Lock rod is left in place, so you do have to slide the inner panel forward till lock rod exits opening. You also have to remove the handle rod from back of handle and and open the claws holding lock rod on pivot plate, oh, and remove both rods from plastic sliders.
My 86 was already drilled at factory, so I had to do no measuring.

With the new regulators, it includes a sheet with the upgrade procedure, including measurements on where the lower two holes need to be drilled and where the mounting slot needs to be cut. I, like Agent86, did not have to do any drilling on mine, as my 86 was already drilled from the factory.

Default Possible Failsafe locator Idea.

Thanks for your replies.

The instructions are excellent, however, the doors on my '85 do not have any of the starting reference points for the holes that need to be drilled and the regulators are good used units that did not come with any instructions.

As the vehicle has been heavily modified, both mechanically and cosmetically, I suspect that the doors may have been altered/repaired at some point because there is evidence of body work under both doors and they are a smooth surface from front to back with the exception of two half circle vent/drain openings at either end.

I do not have them apart yet, so I can not comment on how they may have been modified internally.

If possible, I would like to verify the drilled hole location by referencing their location relative to the lower edge of the outside door skin.

It is my understanding that no matter what year your C4 is the lower edge of the outer door skin is the same length, which is 42 and 5/8th's inches or 108.3 cm or 1083 mm.

This could be done by laying a set square across the center of the bolt holes out to the door edge on any late model regulator equipped C4 and measuring from the either the front back, or the rear forward to those center lines where they cross the door edge.

If all C4 doorskins are the same length, then this method would show the correct position regarless of the existing or non existing holes that should be on the bottom of the inner door.

If there is a better way, please let me know.
