I just had a 383 built and installed in my 95 coupe. All new intake, injectors (30 lb.) opti, etc. I have not had the ECM reprogrammed yet. After the car has been shut off for more than 20 minutes it's a real bear to restart. And yes, it smells rich when it's idleing. Plus REAL poor mileage, 11-12 mpg. My installation mechanic says the hard starting is heat soak on the fuel rail causing vapor lock. I didn't know vapor lock could occur on fuel injected cars. So in the meantime before the reprogram, is their anything else that might have been overlooked?
Your mech is wrong. As long as the fuel is under pressure from the pump it can't vapor lock.
It's more than likely loaded the plugs up because the tune is off in left field. You are risking serious engine damage if you continue to run it on the stock tune.

call faschip.com Ed Wright he can reprgram your ECM and mail it back to you as he has Dyno so many he knows where you need to be.
The best thing is to find a local shop with a Dyno and someone who has the software and a air/fuel meter to custome program for the altitude you are driving at. call Ed.
