I believe it does that so if your refrigerant becomes low the sensors wil not let the compressor run. So to enable you to recharge the system you have to disconnect the battery to get the compressor to engage to recharge the system.

I guess that what I meant to say is, my digital readout on my control head has been flashing like mad, and all of the lights have been on, then off, etc...and it always reads 66 degrees.

I had the same problem with mine about 5 years ago....my problem was the "gold plated" connectors inside the ac faceplate were loose and intermittently making and breaking contact. To resolve my problem I took the unit apart and soldered all the connections .....there are a bunch of them all in a row. Its a good idea to replace all the lamps while you have the unit apart. Hope this helps.

Thanks...I'd really like to convert it to old style levers, and block my blend doors open so they blow out the top vents-I never need heat in AZ, just a/c...
