If it's not working why do you need to disable it, it's already disabled.

Mine is (was) not working at all and the ABS light was on all the time. I had a mechanic look into it and he thought the problem was likely in the ABS (controller/pump) so he just unplugged it (electrical connection) to eliminate the anoyance of the dash light. The plug was under the storage compartment behind the drivers seat under the insulation. He said that the brakes would operate normally (non ABS) in that configuration and that would not really be any different that I was experiencing given that the indicator light was sensing an ABS failure of some sort. Apparently it fail-safes to regular brakes. Don't know if that will solve your problem but it may.

The abs is kicking in when its not supposed to eh?The pedal will pulsate on dry roads, when coming to a stop?

I had this problem and pulled the fuse for a little while. It turned out to be a bad abs wheel sensor.

Some of the sensors will get build up with grime and dirt...it can make it blind...you can try cleaning them or have each sensor checked to see which one is possibly bad.

Each sensor is held into the hub with one bolt and should remove without too much trouble. Some may corrode itself into the aluminum hubs and make removal destructive to get them out.

Did not mention that my mechanic said that my problem did not apear to be the wheel sensors. He had ruled them out. I presume he learned that from his real time scanner but I didn't ask enough questions to be certain of that. He basically concluded after diagnosis that the ABS unit (pump??) was likely the failed part. Said way expensive to fix/replace so unplugged the electric to get rid of the dash warning. BTW - we drove the car for several years with the ABS light lit using "regular" brakes.

Do you have a local Corvette Club with a local "guru" that makes half his living after dark and has the diagnostic tools? If so, that's your guy to plug into the data port and drive it around reading the tea leaves. That's the kind of guy I have avaiable and becuause he's connected to the local club, it keeps him honest.

Mine is an 87

i have a spare abs pump and the relays if you need it and no i don't want crazy money for it. maybe $100 shipped complete with the relays. i wonder if it might not be your ebcm, those often fail. your mechanic may know but if you need a pump PM me.

I would simply unplug the ABS computer. It's located behind driver's seat in cargo area. On verts, it's right under the rear speaker.

When you're ready to diagnose use this:

Actually, it a broken system will cause all sorts of driveability problems, especially in tight turns like while in parking lots. Most of the complaints from customers with ABS problems were due to a mis-functioning wheel sensor. The parking lot issue can cause an accident, especially on some GM systems as the pulsing will reduce pressure so much that you cannot stop in time before you hit the vehicle in front.
