LED Tail lights

Default LED Tail lights

I have a 1984 Corvette and I was considering changing the tail lights to LED's. Has anyone else done this with an early C4? If so, I would like to see pictures, or hear stories on how easy or hard the conversation was.

Hey

Its not as easy as it says on the box for two reasons. I changed mine on my 88 and inorder to get to them i had to remove the gas tank cover and the spout ( that holds the pump, just a few screws) on the rear of the car. Then you have to reach in and remove the screws on the top and bottom of the lights closes to the gas tank, once you have them out you can reach in and get the outer lights. YOu will need a small ratched.

Then once you have this all taken care of and everything is put back together you need to go and purchase a new signal/flasher solonide from your local car parts store ( i got mine at canadian tire) the solonide is located under the dash on the passanger side of the car it is easies i found to remove the top dash and reach in for it. Its located on the left side roughly 3" down in a bracket. YOu have to do this because the flashers run on current and led lights draw less current so your lights wont flash they will just stay solid. I forget the name of the after marked flasher but if its clear, round and has three connection points your on the right track. Do not buy the stock replacement!!!

Thank you, it sounds way harder that plug and play like it says. Everything on this car has been that way so far. A simple job takes hours.

What?!?!?!?!? That sounds like a lot of work for minimum effect. Screw LEDs.

Ya they look great when finished but they are a pain to do. You just need time (lots of it) and patience thats all!!!

The older turn signal flashers have a flash rate that is determined by the amount of current going through the flasher to the individual bulbs.
That is why, if one bulb burns out, the flash rate is affected.

Since the LEDs use much less current, they won't cause the old type flasher to work correctly.
Usually, the fix is to use a newer style flasher designed for that purpose.
