Why not just sell the stick - and buy an auto? Manual Trans bring a premium price - they are more desireable/harder to find - so why not sell it - you could probably upgrade in terms of mileage/ years/ condition! There have been several people here who simply swapped cars because of the transmissions!
you may want to do a search on just the oposite and see what others are buying to go to a manual. I know that has been done by a few on here. Im interested myself, the second car in my signature, I would like to eventually convert it to an automatic, but I will probably go with a 350 instead of the 700.

Listen to this guy. It is a better way of doing it.
You need to change just the front yoke of your driveshaft. You will need the kickdown cable from the same year car.
Need:
Tranny
converter
dustshield
coolant lines and cooler
auto yoke
Auto brake pedal (optional)
auto center console and light harness
Auto shifter and cable.
Kickdown cable
Way to mount shifter. I graphted a peice of auto tunnel to mine.
Lock-up controller if wanted. I used a B&M.
You need to wire up the reverse lights and nuetral switch to the shifter, as well as the lights for the shift plate. It's really not a hard job to do at all.
If changing from a 4+3 to auto can use same yoke; is same 27 spline .
If only a bracket car then can use aftermarket shifter (B&M ) and rework manual console.
As stated ,the tunnel cutout for the original shifter needs plating over or auto tunnel section grafted in
so as to mount new shifter..

You can even use a non Vette T700 core (cheaper ) if rebuilding for track work with a Vette tailshaft housing.(may need output shaft trimming )
if your interested in coming to nc for a few days, I will gladly swap you my 91 700r4. (12k miles with papers) you can take all the parts from mine and i will take yours.
Will I have to change the ECM or Wiring Harness? Pipe
The main difference in the tune, auto v stick is to do with the TCC .
You would need to get someone to burn a chip with the correct programming for the lock up.
Good time to do all the other chip mods; change fan on / off temps , remove VATS , adjust tune to suit your intended use.
Obviously you need the wiring to the plug on trans and some wiring for the overide switch on brake pedal as well as the neutral start switch on shifter..Minor stuff for the mechanical inclined.
If you were to do a 4th gear only lock up, no ecm changes would be required. Another option on pre 88 transmissions is a hydraulic lock up valve can be easily installed. 88 and up does not have the bore drilled in the v/b, so it is not an option to hydraulicly lock converter.
Its actually very easy. I have a 86 with a 96 motor and auto tranny run by a 96 manual trans. dash. Works better thatn everyone said it never would. Just for kicks the engine harness is for a manual ac but the dash is auto ac and works great.
