does anyone know where I can get a true dual exhaust kit for a 91 l98? Ive seen the one from midamerica but I dont like it. Im looking for one that has some kind of cross over like a h or y pipe. but be true duals with no cats. Muffler shops around here will not make me the kit I want, even though the car will be on the track only. b/c it came with a cat from the factory.
Corvette Central has a true dual kit with an H-pipe. The pipes are 2 1/4" with an O2 sensor bung in the factory location. The cost is somewhere around $300 with shipping. Form the pics on their site, it looks to be easy to install using the factory hangers. The pipes are bent just like the stock pipes so any Corvett-specific muffler should bolt on in the factory location.
One reason that shops will not do a system like you want is because it is a violation of federal law to remove working cats from a street driven car. The fine if they are caught is in 5 figures!
Did you take the car to a shop with a working exhaust?? Have you tried to remove the entire exhaust system yourself and then take the car to a shop? You might ask shops if they will do an install that way. Also remove the license plates beforehand and tell the shop you have returned the plates to the DMV and cancelled them. Maybe add some decals to make it look like a track car.

Corvette Central has the best price I have seen. You can get work done without lying or tricking the shop. If you are willing to take the risk yourself. Believe me, most muffler shops have seen every trick in the book.
Maybe try this place. http://www.sweet-thunder.com/ If you can burrow a trailer you may be able to get one of the local shops to do it. I was told this was the only way by one exhaust shop. Exotic Muscle sells the no cat extensions if you are planning on doing headers.

like dirve the car to the shop open headers? I like the looks of the LT1 exhaust also, where can I buy a replacement exhaust for the lt1?
I was told NO, before I even brought up the idea. they said by law they can not even put 2 cats on a car that came with just one. shocked me, sice it was a little muffler shop in the middle of nowhere... I like the CC kit, cheep also. but their lies a prob. my mufflers are magnaflow ss single in dual out. their not made for a corvette. ( alltough they are the same model number that come with the vette kit)
i would still need to take it to a muffler shop to have pipes bent for the mulffers and them welded...

I brought all my own stuff (x-pipe, cats, muffs, etc..) to my local
exhaust shop minus any exhaust, and requested true duals...if it's not
there to start with, they can hardly be fined for something they didn't
do....
Talk to the shop you will use to make sure that it's ok to do so first...
wow thats pretty, makes me wish I had got the polished magnaflows, wonder if I could polish them?
Im going to talk to them tomarrow and see if I remove the exhaust if, they would bend it up for me. Or I thought about asking them to make the kit but not install it. I realy dont want to drive it with open headers lol
On my 91 I already had a Hooker front y-pipe and a Borla rear y-pipe with a hollowed cat. I bought a 2.5" Magnaflow x-pipe and had an exhaust shop fab in the x-pipe in place of the cat. Its now true duals with an x-pipe. As others have said it can be difficult to find someone to do the job though since the cat has to come off.

Some people drive to the shop with open headers and the shop will work on it. Most times it is harder to get the old system off than hang a new one. If you do remove your old one without breaking the header flange bolts, just go ahead and hang the new system. You can take it to a shop for final alignment if need be. This assumes you buy a complete system made for the car. ie CC true duals.
For the price you are getting dual exhaust, but:
I'm not a fan of crush bent piping, and I think 2.25 is a little small if you want to do a good number of bolt ons. I also prefer an X pipe over an h pipe. I'd want 2.5" and preferably mandral bent piping, press bent is even better if done right (I've seem a big difference in the bends depending on who's working the bender). But all those thing make it more expensive. Depends on what you are doing and what you want to pay for.
If you want something else, I would check out local speed shops as well as muffler shops. Of if you have a welder and ability to cut pipe you can do it yourself, order the pipes and bends and fab it up yourself. There's also the Melrose set up that works with long tubes, but that had some fitment issues, that were suppose to be fixed.
