Default follow up on lights

ok after some research ive found that the headlights were revised in 86, diffrent motors etc and they dropped the 3 relay setup to just one. could somebody who has a 86 on have a look in a good manual for me and let me know where the relay is? much appriciated.

Hi. I don't know where it is, but you are looking for a 4.5" square
module about 1 inch deep. It has a 5 wire plug and a 4 wire plug
on its face. It says "GUIDE". I would start looking near the vacuum
ball in the little area just ahead of the left front tire. Good luck

thanks for that, how did you find that out? do you mean "guide" is written on the box?

Yes, GUIDE is written on the face. The system is the same on a 1989
Firebird i have. The parts locations are not the same. My Corvette
has the old 3 relay system. I hope you get it going. Benny

great thanks for that. oddly the problem is that they ARE going. when i switch just park/side lights on the headlights flip round too. ive searched high and low for a possible awnser but cant find much. ive tested switch and its ok, so im guessing it can only be relay?

That is odd. The books i have are not much help. Vague schematics
with no trouble-shooting tips. I did have to replace the module on
the Firebird. I replaced the bushings (same as vette) and they still
wouldn't close, so i replaced the module. 4 years ago, still works. Benny

Yes it is. Everything is inside the module. The last thing you
wanted to hear was that. I don't know the test procedure to
rule it out. I hope as the evening bunch drift in, someone can
be more help.

Its not even dark here. The module is in lots of '90s pontiac products.
Thats not much help over there is it? The way i read this diagram, its
much more likely the headlight switch than the module. I hope i have
not misguided you. Benny

well ive cleaned it all and the switch is functioning how it should. is there anyway of testing the park light part of the switch? maybe put a meter on the wires and see what happens when turned one click, im guessing one wire is permanent 12v, one earth, one to fold lights, one for side lights and one for headlights on. does that sound right?

Are you sure you have the newer headlight assemblies ?? I believe they came out in 88. Someone could have converted the system, but I would look a little harder.

I see in another post that you have a 90. I misread this post, sounded like you had an 86. You want info from someone who has an 88 or newer. :o

ok ive found the relay, thanks for everyones help on this. problem is now, if i unplug then plug the relay back in it works, up until i operathe the headlights, then from there on when ever in par lights, the headlights open too.

so question is do i buy a replacement switch or relay unit!? and is there a good online source for the pair. further help much apriciated.

after checking ebay.com there appears to be lots of modules and not so many switchs so im guessing the module is more likely the culprate.
